World’s leading test wicket taker, Former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been appointed as the bowling coach and team mentor of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2015 IPL season.
The team announced its appointment on social media.
The 42-year-old, who retired from international cricket with 800 Test wickets and 534 ODI wickets, picked up 63 wickets in 66 IPL games at an excellent economy rate of 6.69.
Murali has represented three franchises during a seven-year long association with the IPL, he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
He achieved tremendous success while representing CSK in particular, winning the title in both 2010 and 2011, as well as the Champions League T20 in South Africa in 2010.
Murali decided to end his playing career at the end of the 2014 IPL season, and was a bowling consultant for Cricket Australia who was the first to use his experience.
