Two Opening Ceremonies For World Cup 2015
Melbourne and Christchurch are all decked to host the opening ceremony for the eleventh ICC World Cup 2015, as they welcome the big event after a gap of 23 years.
Two opening ceremonies for cricket’s marquee event will be held on February 12, with co-hosts New Zealand to stage their opener on the same evening in Christchurch.
Melbourne’s celebration at Sidney Myer Music Bowl will involve World Cup players and legends, cultural and music performances, also a spectacular fireworks display.
Christchurch’s opening event will feature some of New Zealand’s best known performers, cricket legends including Richard Hadlee and Stephen Fleming and a special segment to recognize the rebuilding of the city following the disastrous earthquakes.
The New Zealand Herald reports that groups of cricket fans were already spreading out their blankets and marking their prime real estate close to the giant main stage before six hours to get a glimpse of the opening ceremony for the 2015 Cricket World Cup started.
This is going to be a month and a half of hits, misses, emotions and celebrations. The tournament starts with the first match at Hagley Oval on Saturday with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka will run till March 29
